IN OUR NATURE

23 May - 11 June 2025

Durlston Country Park National Nature Reserve

Dorset Visual Arts' first-ever DVA Member Open Call, 'In Our Nature,' is a major new exhibition exploring the relationship between Dorset's natural environment and artists' studio practices, showcasing the county's unique biodiversity and its role as a source of inspiration. The exhibition features artistic responses to the Climate and Ecological Emergency by some of Dorset's most talented artists.

The exhibition, part of the 2025 DVAtions programme, will be on display at the Fine Foundation Gallery in Durlston Country Park from 23rd May to 11th June 2025. DVA will curate the exhibition, with works selected by Shannon Dugdale, Visitor Services Ranger and Gallery Manager, Durlston Country Park NNR, and Toby Wiggins RP.

The displayed works will embody the essence of Dorset's natural environment, ecology, and habitats, through diverse artistic expressions. The exhibition will showcase the artists' connection to place, location, residency, and belonging, inviting the audience to experience the natural bounty and wonder of Dorset.

Dorset Visual Arts and Dorset Council have declared a Climate and Ecological Emergency with Culture Declares. Conversations and action around ecology, climate and sustainable living are central to DVA’s aims and mission.

DVA wants to enable its Members, communities and arts audiences to engage in a positive dialogue around the issues and challenges for a more sustainable Dorset and to help better understand and protect our natural environment.

Exhibition Location: The Fine Foundation Gallery, Durlston Country Park, Lighthouse Road, Swanage BH19 2JL

For this exhibition I submitted 2 pieces and sold one, along with a signed print.

This two-week exhibition at The Malthouse Gallery, Lyme Regis, showcases the culmination of their creative journeys, reflecting how each artist uniquely engages with and is inspired by their surroundings.

Jillian Hunt creates abstract photography that evolves into innovative textiles and unique interior decor.

Alison Bowskill explores a variety of printmaking processes and techniques including Etching, Lithography and Lino. Her prints are an emotive response to locations and environments which capture the drama, life and mood of these places.

Fran Marsh Williams creates magical and handcrafted wooden automata, music boxes and sculpture. Her pieces are made in part from found materials, made to move, make you smile and tell a story.

Jools Woodhouse has recently incorporated hand painted and printed collage paper into her paintings adding depth and texture to her distinctive depictions of semi-abstract local landscapes.

“As artists, we spend time reflecting on our environment and responding to the rhythms of life and landscape. Coming together to celebrate the diverse ways we interact with these elements is both fulfilling and enlightening.”
