6 week Landscape Painting Course

Twice a year I run a 6 week course called Landscape Painting for beginners and improvers and places are limited to just 3 or 4 people

Why is this?

I like to give my students undivided attention and support them along the way. This is impossible in large groups and people often feel left out and don’t want to bother the tutor. With a small group, you will get all the help you need and not have to wait.

There is plenty of space in my studio to work comfortably and the conversation flows easily. A nice cuppa and some cake helps things along nicely!

What will I learn?

We start by getting to know acrylic paints and colour mixing. There are lots of fun exercises to help us to get started.

We then select a photograph of a landscape you love, to work from and learn all about composition, how to use focal points, eliminate ‘clutter’ and work on the design.

After that, we begin our 30 x 40cm painting on a wood panel, building up layers using blending techniques. This takes several weeks, adding detail and landscape features at the end. Acrylic is very different to watercolour so if you have experience of that medium, you will have to leave that behind for now!

This 6 week course is fun, informative, creative and very satisfying. Read the testimonials at the end of this page to get an idea of how much you will benefit from this course.

What People Are Saying

I started the course with Jools feeling rather inadequate and convinced that I could not paint. Right from the start she encouraged me to play, to explore and experiment and to make my own judgments about what I liked - or didn't like.

— Kath

“Jools’ landscape art class has been both inspirational and fun. It has given me the confidence to step out of my comfort zone and use mediums and techniques I have never used before. Jools is a wonderful teacher, practical, knowledgeable and highly skilled. She’ll give you the tools, all you need is the imagination. We have learned so much and created some great pieces of work. I can’t wait to see what we will produce next term. Thank you Jools!”

— Mel

“Art with Jools was a joy … as a total beginner with zero creative talent I enjoyed the way the course built up technique each week and am delighted with what I was able to achieve under her guidance. Jools has a lovely, calm, encouraging manner and her studio provides the perfect setting - I thoroughly recommend it!”

What People Are Saying

What a fantastic and inspiring course! And, so much to learn and achieve in such a short timeframe. Starting with simple methods and techniques, to the finished (master)pieces all in just six weeks. Amazing..”

— Pete

Jools takes you through a process which allows you to interpret and develop colour and compositions, layout and depth – no hard points! Beginning with very simple line drawings of an intention, or interpretation of what you wish to paint.

We started with photos and scenes which inspire, or hold a memory or meaning; the rest is down to you, but under Jools’ watchful eye and guidance obviously. But most importantly, you’ll enjoy the process and the results.
